Even though she’s already a Kapamilya actress, Janine Gutierrez still cannot forget how grateful she is to GMA Network.

As seen on her social media account, most of her updates are about her newfound home network in the showbiz industry, but the actress always knows how to look back on where she came from.

On her Instagram account, the actress posted a photo of her recent appearance on ASAP Natin To.

“The last time I was inside ABS-CBN was during a studio tour in high school. I never would have imagined that the next time would be –all this ♥♥ Thank you again to @abscbn and @asapofficial for the most unbelievable welcome! so excited to be part of the most iconic show ♥

The actress also didn’t forget to thank her fans who keep supporting her even though she changed her home network.

“Salamat rin sa lahat ng nakapanood at nagpadala ng messages at tweets. Salamat, #Kapamilya!! ♥♥ sa uulitin?”

But in that same post, a netizen expressed that she will be missing Janine acting on her former network.

As grateful as she is, the actress thanked the netizen and mentioned that she will always be thankful for GMA Network.

Janine Gutiérrez’s transfer to ABS-CBN was because GMA Network supposedly decided not to renew her contract because of her remark about the return of Senator Bong Revilla to showbiz.

As Janine became the latest addition in the long list of Kapuso-turned-Kapamilya stars, this new milestone didn’t just bring happiness to others. Still, she also received support and lovely comments from her now former Kapuso co-stars.

Janine has been with the GMA Network for nearly a decade. She is from a family of celebrities and is the daughter of veteran actress Lotlot de Leon and actor Ramon Christopher Gutiérrez.

Even before switching to networks, she won various awards, such as the Gawad Urian Best Actress of 2020 for the iconic movie Babae at Baril. In her long stay at GMA, Janine Gutierrez can already be considered one of her former network’s acclaimed actresses.

But, just like many GMA Network artists who moved to ABS-CBN, Gutierrez ultimately opted for growth in her career.

How is Jobert Austria doing now after ‘Banana Sundae’s’ farewell?

ABS-CBN talent and comedian Jobert Austria, or more popularly known as ‘Kuya Jobert’, has discovered a new life in Canada. However, his love for the Philippines remains firm.

After being in a long-distance relationship for 10 years, he decided to reunite with childhood crush, now wife Tiad Guzman, in Calgary, Canada.

Austria, as a permanent resident, was able to adjust well to his new country.

Despite the pandemic, his work as a comedian continued as he was able to do stand-up comedy, which he never experienced in the Philippines.

He was also touched by the warm welcome he received from the Filipino-Canadians who easily laugh at his jokes and appreciate his work.

Aside from stand-up comedy, Austria still continued to entertain his solid fans in the Philippines through his YouTube channel which airs online shows like Kuya Jobert Live, Saging Beside You, and Sagot Ka Ni Kuya Jobert.

The entertainer had already migrated to Calgary, Canada even before the shutdown of ABS-CBN happened due to franchise denial. He was part of the gag show “Banana Sundae” as a mainstay.

The news hit him so hard but his love and concern for his co-workers in the network remained stronger.

He sent out his support to everyone who had been greatly affected by the closure.

“Magpakatatag kayo at magdasal kayo sa Diyos. At ipagdasal natin na sama sama tayo na sana gumawa tayo ng paraan para kung hindi tayo magsasalita, masasanay at masasanay sila na ganyan. Kailangan kumibo tayo, kumilos tayo,” Austria said during an interview with Quay Evano for Balitang America.

Kuya Jobert rose to fame via a viral online video.

In 2014, it was a desolate time for Austria when his girlfriend, presently his spouse, who was living in Canada left him feeling depressed. This made him a drug dependent until he ended up at the 6th floor of a hotel contemplating on committing suicide.

In the following year, the comedian was on his way home from a show taping when he got into a car accident on Araneta Avenue near Del Monte Avenue in Quezon City. Reportedly, it took some time before he could be rushed to St. Luke’s Medical Center due to the severity of the accident.

Austria also revealed that he is adopted after his biological mother gave him up because they were too poor.

He also eventually reconciled with wife Tiad and son Myron.

He credits fellow comedian Eric Nicolas and actor John Lloyd Cruz, his co-stars in the sitcom “Home Sweetie Home”, who helped him get back on his feet.

The Kapamilya comedian was a regular on the gag show Banana Sundae and was one of Coco Martin’s sidekicks in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.

He was a DJ on DZMM and did different shows like “Havey or Waley”, “Toda Max, and “The Illegal Wife”.

Austria got his biggest break as Karla Estrada’s leading man in the comedy film Familia Blondina.

According to Austria, his encounters brought him closer to God and taught him the significance of looking back on where he came from.

Flawes collaborates with Mali-Koa on ‘Higher Than Before’

$

February 1st, 2021 – Singapore – Flawes has set the foundations for bigger things in 2021 by releasing the new single “Higher Than Before”. It features vocals from Mali-Koa and is the third release from their EP ‘Reverie’ which will be released on February 26th.

Consistently using their exuberant alt-pop sound to deliver a message of pure positivity, Flawes are a liberating experience at a time when it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the world around us. Factor in consistently inventive visuals for their recent singles “Holding Out For The Win” and “What’s a Boy To Do”, and it’s easy to see why they’re emerging as a hot tip among numerous new music champions.

“Higher Than Before” finds Flawes in a far more reflective mood, but it’s clear that their passion is amplified. Frontman JC Carruthers’ soaring falsetto delivers a celebration of transcendent love, singing, “I feel that this could be the brightest that we’ve ever felt before.” The strength of his feeling is hammered home with surely the biggest beats that drummer Josh ‘Huss’ Hussey has ever delivered. Meanwhile, Freddie Edwards’ radiant guitar work is as just as sun-kissed as ever and Mali-Koa elevates it further leading the closing verse.

The song’s stratospheric lyrics have inspired the track’s video, which features Flawes and Mali-Koa performing on top of a cloud. Yet in typical Flawes fashion, there’s a playful twist. The fantastical concept is given a light-hearted dose of realism. The video closing shots show that the band’s skybound jumps have all been performed on a small trampoline in a studio.

“”Higher Than Before” is all about giving a relationship a chance and looking at things in a more positive light. The chorus hook “You’re taking me Higher Than Before” centres around the realisation that being with them has vastly improved my life; life is a lot better when they are in it. It features the amazing Mali-Koa who we are huge fans of, so it was a dream to finally work together,” explains JC.

Mali-Koa adds, “I think the boys are brilliant, so it was a no brainer for me! “Higher Than Before” felt like a natural fit, the chorus is so anthemic and uplifting, writing with JC was a day spent laughing and creating. I think that’s what it is about Flawes. It isn’t all serious band business, they like to have a fun time and make songs along the way.”

The London-based Australia singer-songwriter Mali-Koa released her debut album ‘Hunger’ late last year. Praise included Clash who described her as, “a songwriter of real directness and sophistication,” while The Line of Best Fit stated, “Love, in all its shapes and forms, is a topic which Mali handles poetically, every time.” Flawes honoured the release of the album by sharing their take on its title track.

After a steady rise in which they earned a Record of the Week at Radio 1 and worked with leading producers such as FINNEAS (Billie Eilish) and Lostboy (Dua Lipa), Flawes took the opportunity last year to record some new songs, with the remote assistance of producers such as Toby Scott (The Gossip, Pet Shop Boys). Their new material is bursting with personality, encompassing the energy of their live shows and an escapist spirit that is proving to be empowering for the band and their fans. The ‘Reverie’ EP positions Flawes to achieve the things they were aiming for in 2020 – just a little behind schedule.

With their previous releases ‘Lowlights’ and ‘Highlights’, Flawes has seen its music video for “Look No Further” added to rotation on Channel [V] Asia, VH1 India and VERY TV, along with numerous press features and radio pickups in the region. From here, the only direction the band can go is up.

‘Reverie’ EP tracklist:

1. Holding Out For The Win
2. What’s A Boy To Do
3. Higher Than Before (ft. Mali Koa)
4. I Don’t Quit For No One
5. Move Over
6. Against All Odds

MLD Entertainment, the South Korean entertainment agency that brought MOMOLAND to the world, has given K-pop fans a new set of idols to “stan” with its newest mega boy group T1419.

The group, which officially debuted in January this year, is composed of five Korean members Sian, Kevin, Gunwoo, On, and its leader Noa, while four of them are Japanese, namely Zero, Kairi, Leo, and Kio.

T1419 immediately made a statement with the music video for their debut single called “ASURABALBALTA,” which combines hiphop, electronic music, and pop to highlight the group’s collective chant to make their wishes come true.

In just three weeks since its launch, the fiery music video for “ASURABALBALTA” has already garnered 18 million views.

“ASURABALBALTA” is part of their debut single album called “Before Sunrise Part. 1,” which also contains the title track’s instrumental version, and another track called “Butt Out.” Aside from this, the Japanese version of “ASURABALBALTA” is already available on online music streaming platforms.

New fans can also get to know the boys better by following their adventures, gams, and behind-the-scenes activities in their group vlogs, two of which have already been released. Its third and fourth episodes, meanwhile, will arrive soon on MLD Entertainment’s and T1419’s official YouTube channels.

Fans can also watch the music video and dance practice videos of T1419’s pre-debut single “Dracula” on the said YouTube channels, as well as other dance practice and performance videos.

Through their music, the boys intend to showcase the experiences and problems that today’s youth go through. According to MLD Entertainment, the “T” in the group’s name stands for “teenager” and the “1419” comes from the fact that the boys were all 14 to 19 years old when they met each other and were formed as a group.

T1419’s sister group MOMOLAND is co-managed by ABS-CBN in the Philippines.

For updates, fans can follow the group at @T1419_official on Twitter and Instagram, and subscribe to T1419’s official YouTube channel and MLD Entertainment’s YouTube channel for updates.

With the launch of the group BGYO and the rise of Pinoy pop, actor Janus Del Prado questioned the tagging of P-pop as original content from Filipinos.

On his Facebook account, Janus dubbed them as a ‘photocopy’ of Korean Pop groups. Then, he criticized the musical styles and clothing of the P-pop groups, noting that they do not embody the Filipino identity.

Ba’t niyo pa tinawag na Ppop eh photo copy lang naman ng Kpop. Wala namang identity na sariling atin. Eh walang kabahid…

Posted by Janus Del Prado on Sunday, January 31, 2021

Then, he reposted his Facebook post on his Instagram account, noting that he has nothing against both K-Pop and P-pop. He agrees with BGYO’s talent, but he urges Filipinos not to push P-pop as an original genre. Janus warned that it shows plagiarism.

Then, he added that the more appropriate term would be Korean-Pinoy Pop or KP-pop.

According to article 15, section 2 of Broadcast Code of the Philippines 2007 (as amended 2011), “Any music which is composed, performed, adapted, translated, or arranged by a Filipino — including adaptations and translations into Pilipino or a Philippine dialect of foreign works — shall be considered an OPM.”

Notably, one of the earliest references of P-pop was the Pinoy group, Smokey Mountain, who became known for their attire during their performances.

Finally, Janus ended the series of posts with a disclaimer that he is only responsible for what he says, not what people understand.

5 Facts about Gen Z jobseekers

$
0
0

It’s official: “Generation Z” is officially joining the workforce. Yes, that’s right! The ‘Gen Zs’ or the first wave of kids born between 1997-2012 are all grown up and are now on the cusp of graduating college and pursuing their first job. What’s more is that they are starting their careers in a unique situation—during a pandemic, where the normative work processes we have come to enjoy have largely been disrupted. They are the digital natives, with their lives shaped by the internet and connectivity.

But what do we really know about them? What do they look for in a company? Is it the same as the previous generations’? Here are five things to know about Gen Z jobseekers:

Fact 1. They tend to favor jobs in finance and operations

When pressed about their ideal jobs or career path during a recent survey of college students in Metro Manila, they identified their preference to work in the fields and industries below:

1. Operations and Management
2. Finance and Accounting
3. Marketing and Communications
4. Creatives and Media
5. Healthcare

Many of these jobs require a great deal of technical knowledge, creativity, and self-motivation, and are very much aligned with the college degrees/educational backgrounds they have pursued.

Fact 2. They want to work with purpose

Call them optimistic or idealistic, but Gen Zs place a very high value on the notion of ‘purposeful and meaningful’ work. They look for companies that align with their values and yearn for a career that is geared towards creating social impact.

Fact 3. They look for mentorship and career growth

Young jobseekers cited the importance of having mentors and figures to look up to and learn from. That is why they are looking for a company with a reputation for career growth and a strong company culture that invests in their talents.

Fact 4. They’re aspiring jet-setters.

Who doesn’t like traveling? For many Gen Zs, an opportunity to work abroad at some point in their careers is on their bucket list. What’s not to love about a jet-setting job? International experience exposes them to unique perspectives and a multitude of opportunities for career growth.

Fact 5. They see multinational companies as ‘career goals’

Most Gen Zs have identified working for multinational companies (MNCs) as their ‘dream workplace.’ They cited the success, stability, and recognition of the company, the familiarity of their brands and products, and competitive salaries and benefits as factors in viewing these global corporations and conglomerates as aspirational career destinations.

Don’t wait for the pandemic to end—a meaningful career awaits

Gen Zs find themselves in unfamiliar territory. For many of them, they would have experienced a semester or two of online schooling; their graduations would have been live streamed; and they’re about to enter the professional world that exists virtually in some form or another.

While the country proceeds with caution due to the ongoing health crisis, organizations such as Mondelez Philippines have successfully transitioned to a work-from-home (WFH) setup for most of its workforce, and continues to hire people for critical roles.

Cited as one of the dream companies to work for by graduating students and prospective first-jobbers in the same survey, thanks to its portfolio of childhood favorite snack products, the multi-national company has ample opportunities for a career in operations, finance, and marketing. Teams in these Functions of the Company get to work with beloved brands they grew up with, like Eden Cheese, Cheez Whiz, Tang, Cadbury, Toblerone, Oreo, Chips Ahoy! and so much more. They also get to be part of creating the future of these snack brands and make an impact on Filipinos’ snack experiences. The Company also provides all employees with the chance to make an impact on the community through its mindful snacking and sustainable snacking platforms.

Moreover, young talents in these functions can experience cross-function experience handling multiple teams and categories, which are part of their developmental plan, as the Company molds them to become the next leaders of the organization. Mondelez Philippines was named the fastest growing Top 20 FMCG company in the Philippines in 2020, according to reports by Nielsen as of September 2020. The pandemic has affected many businesses, but Mondelez Philippines remains privileged as consumers continue to purchase its products to provide comfort, deliciousness and nutrition to their home life while in lockdown.

Career development is also a priority at Mondelez Philippines, with “Grow Everyday” as one of its company values. There are month-long career development sessions, individual coaching programs, special assignments, training with top leaders both local and international, and a relentless focus on career advancement and skills development.

Coupled with extended benefits such as gender-inclusive primary parent leaves and comprehensive health plans, competitive salary packages and flexible work arrangements, along with the opportunity to work abroad and be assigned to Mondelēz International offices in other countries, the company is well positioned to offer a purposeful and meaningful career. The Company has exported ~70+ talents across the Globe in the last ~5 years all the way to Europe (UK and Poland), Asia Pacific (China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia and India) and the USA. Some 17% of employees working at Mondelez Philippines and based locally also handle regional or even global roles.

At Mondelez Philippines, Gen Zs can be part of a workplace where they can make it with impact, make it with pride, and make it uniquely your own amidst the pandemic and beyond. Gen Zs can visit their website to find job openings and career opportunities.

Vice President Leni Robredo took to social media to clarify a rumor that said that she was vacationing in Palawan amid the pandemic.

Singer-actress Rachel Alejandro, who was in Palawan at the time, was mistakenly identified by a netizen as VP Robredo.

In an Instagram post by Alejandro on January 20, she posted a picture of herself vacationing in El Nido, Palawan with the view of the ocean in the background.

A post shared by Rachel Alejandro (@racheljalejandro)

“I never fail to tell people who have never been to our country that the Philippines has the best beaches in the world,” she wrote in the caption.

The actress simply posted her beach getaway and even promoted the beaches in the Philippines. However, one netizen mistook her for the vice president and posted on Facebook that Robredo was not doing her duties as a government official.

“Nasaan ang bise presidente? Busy naman pala sa Palawan?” the netizen wrote.

With the uncanny resemblance between Robredo and Alejandro, the said Facebook post went viral as other netizens believed that the vice president was indeed vacationing in Palawan.

On Monday, February 1, Vice President Leni clarified the rumors about her through a post on her official Facebook account.

Robredo simply laughed off the rumors as she explained that she was not the one in the photo because she is currently in her office, and not in Palawan.

In her post, she also asked for the forgiveness of actress Rachel Alejandro.

“Was initially confused why a number of people are sending me this.

“Kalma lang po. Hindi ako yan. Andito po ako sa opisina, wala sa Palawan,” said Robredo.

“Ako na po humihingi ng paumanhin kay Rachel Alejandro,” she added.

Alejandro herself also caught wind of the rumors as she commented on Robredo’s post saying that the rumor simply made her smile.

“VP Leni, ako din po, I got so many comments that I look like you when I posted that photo on IG. Napa-smile nalang ako,” she said.

Alejandro even joked that she will be willing to play VP Leni if ever a movie about the vice president were to be made.

“Basta pag may movie tungkol sa buhay niyo, may idea na kayo sino ang puedeng mag-portray. I don’t believe we’ve properly met but let me use this opportunity to thank you for all that you do,” she said.

(OSLO, NORWAY) “Sorry” is the brand new track from Alan Walker, featuring Norwegian band ISÁK. “Sorry” consists of hard hitting, in-your-face electronic beats, with ISÁK contributing with haunting vocals and Sami indigenous joik – melded together into a breathtaking, expressive Norse collaboration of two worlds.

Treating fans with new music, “Sorry” is released with it’s own music video creatively directed by Walker-collaborator Mads Neset, paying tribute to the moments we missed in 2020, and will make up for in 2021. Filmed before the global pandemic hit, the music video showcases euphoric moments of Walker’s fans, as well as displaying unique moments from Walkers 2019 “The Aviation Tour”.

Spending the last months solely in the studio with extra time on his hands, Walker wasted no time:

“Spending 2020 at home in Bergen gave me the opportunity to tweak every single part of this song to the finest detail, and nurture my relationship with my fans online. We missed many moments in 2020, and I hope we can all meet again in 2021”. – Alan Walker

“Sorry” follows Walkers previous collaboration “Space Melody (Edward Artemyev)” with VIZE and Leony from December 2020. Walkers previous collaborations include “Time”, released in May 2020 – a remix of his personal idol Hanz Zimmer, and “Heading Home” released in April with Norwegian singer-songwriter Ruben.

Walker to date holds over 120 million followers and 50 billion audio and video streams to his name, previously teaming up with massive hitmakers such as Ava Max, Noah Cyrus and A$AP Rocky, while producing remixes for internationally renowned artists as Sia, Coldplay, Kygo, Bruno Mars and Julia Michaels. Walker is currently the 20th most followed artist on Spotify, and with his over 38 million YouTube subscribers, he figures as the 9th biggest artist channel in the world on the platform.

A post shared by Angel Locsin (@therealangellocsin)

After that, netizens started commenting on the post, which she answered in defense of Magalong.

Firstly, Locsin defended Magalong from a netizen who said that he betrayed his constituents for the sake of his socialite friends. Locsin noted that Magalong didn’t go to the Manor to party with socialites but to support local artists affected by the pandemic.

Then, another netizen noted that the actress was glorifying the Baguio City Mayor. The netizen also pointed out how Magalong remained quiet during the controversy and wrote that his resignation as contact tracing czar in response to the issue seemed insincere.

Locsin clarified that she wasn’t glorifying Magalong. She noted that she only recounted her experience meeting the Baguio City Mayor. Locsin also added that she only wants to give credit to Magalong for owning up to his mistakes.

She also agreed with a netizen who only wanted equal treatment to the constituents of Baguio City.

Finally, a netizen criticized the local government unit for allowing the party and the organizers for their sense of privilege and selfishness in conducting the event.

Locsin chided the comment calling out the hypocrisy of the netizen. She points out that the netizen should call out other politicians instead.

And saving the best for last, She recalled that the netizen was the organizer of the ABS-CBN rally, for which Locsin received backlash from netizens who cited the lack of social distancing.

Locsin was one of the prominent artists who attended the ABS-CBN Rally back in 2020 alongside Piolo Pascual and Kathryn Bernardo.

New Rag‘n’Bone Man album is ‘All You Ever Wanted’

Rag‘n’Bone Man returns three years after his ground breaking, award winning debut, ‘Human’, with a renewed sense of purpose, on a sparkling new album, full of heart and soul. ‘Life By Misadventure’ is an incredible collection of emotional songs to touch us when we need it most.

First single ‘All You Ever Wanted’ is propelled by choppy rhythm guitars and a restlessness we’re all currently feeling – watch the video here. “I’d felt sad looking around Brighton and London where I grew up…remembering all those cool places that aren’t there anymore,” Rory Graham, aka Rag‘n’Bone Man, says.

His 2017 landmark debut ‘Human’ was a phenomenal success; a 4x platinum album which shot to #1 week of release in the UK, became the fasted-selling album by a male artist for the entire decade and earned him BRIT and Ivor Novello Awards.

If that’s a hard act to follow, Rag‘n’Bone Man tore up the rule book and went to Nashville to write and record what would become ‘Life By Misadventure’, returning to the UK just before the pandemic first erupted. While a dose of heavy blues and soul lives within some of these new tunes, the majority of this new album finds Rag‘n’Bone Man taking a huge step forward as an artist, a songwriter, and a singer capable of showcasing tremendous warmth and real emotion with every breath.

The bulk of the album was produced and recorded by Grammy Award-winning producer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Elizondo (Eminem, 50 Cent, Fiona Apple, Alanis Morissette) at his studio just outside Nashville.

The album has been recorded purposefully like a live album – the sound is real and 100% human. Long time collaborators Ben Jackson-Cook (keys, co-songwriter and co-producer of the album), Bill Banwell (bass, and co-songwriter) and Desri Ramus (backing vocals) are joined by drummer Daru Jones (Lazaretto-Jack White) and guitarist Wendy Melvoin who joined Prince’s Revolution at the age of 19. Together these musicians have made an album full of joy and immediacy, something all too rare these days of autotune and countless overdubs. One song was even recorded in Rag‘n’Bone Man’s garage.

“We had quite a time to live with the songs this time around,” Rag‘n’Bone Man explains. “Too often, how I’d done things before, was that we’d written a song and I had to sing it the same day, and that was the version we’d use on the album. This way, it was far easier to get real emotion into the music.”

“Life By Misadventure’ is the perfect tonic for these times. An album of depth and soul, about growing up and moving forward. Enjoy the trip.

‘Life By Misadventure’ Tracklisting:

1. Fireflies

2. Breath In Me

3. Fall In Love Again

4. Talking To Myself

5. Anywhere Away From Here

6. Alone

7. Crossfire

8. All You Ever Wanted

9. Changing of the Guard

10. Somewhere Along The Way

11. Time Will Only Tell

12. Lightyears

13. Party’s Over

The Undying Charisma of Willie Revillame: Here’s Why He Remains Very Popular to the Masses

$

He is Willie Revillame. That’s one.

Willie Revillame has been like a godfather to the poor, not even having to think twice to shell out his personal money, just to extend financial help to his needy audiences. You know that when people tell you to just cry in front of ‘Kuya Wil’ if you want to instantly get PhP5,000, they’re mostly just telling the truth—I mean, come on, who does not want easy money, right?

Kidding aside, the portrait Revillame created in the eyes of the poor has essentially made him a hero, and while this may be problematic, and can potentially encourage indolence, the notion that celebrities like him can have such great influence on the masses remains interesting.

Revillame’s variety shows have hurdled the change of network, three times already. He first left ABS-CBN in 2010, after Wowowee’s successful five-year run. In the same year, Wil Time Big Time debuted on TV5, only to be replaced by another show, Wowowillie, whose poor ratings prompted him and TV5’s management to end it after only eight months of being on air.

In 2015, after nearly two years of television hiatus, he came back with another variety show—honed in the same mold as his past three noontime shows—but this time, on ABS-CBN’s biggest rival, GMA Network. Wowowin aired its maiden episode on May 10, 2015, and is now set to celebrate its 5th anniversary, this year.

Willie Revillame calls his lucky winner on ‘Wowowin’

While Wowowin almost follows the same format as Wowowee and TV5 noontime shows, the unavailability of the noontime slot prompted Revillame to occupy GMA Network’s pre-primetime block. The show has since been airing on the said time slot for more than four years now.

Last year, when the pandemic halted productions and the airing of live shows, Wowowin was among the Kapuso shows to temporarily stop going on-air. Revillame’s eagerness to continue his work of reaching out to his fans—most of whom are poor—made the show come back just a month after going off-the-air.

Revillame celebrated his birthday on January 27 and his celebration drew flak from netizens for allegedly violating minimum health protocols after at least 4,000 fans lined up in front of the Wil Tower, hoping Revillame will come out to extend to some form of financial help like he usually does. Understanding this level of influence may be mind-boggling, but it’s interesting to know that such power isn’t unique to Revillame, as many popular celebrities have displayed a similar, if not better charismatic appeal to the masses.

His consistent display of magnanimous behavior towards the poor seems to play a major factor in why he keeps such a huge influence over his fans. People tend to take his action as a genuine display of compassion, but again, while easy money helps a poor family from starving for a day, the lack of a longtime plan remains problematic.

The correlation between poverty and idolatry has always been an interesting point of debate, and in Revillame’s case, the distinct demographic composition of his fans—who mostly belong to the lowest-income classes—provides strong suggestions of the negative impact of his influence may be causing.

That being said, Revillame’s choice to transfer to GMA Network, seems a very wise decision for him not to lose his grip over his staunch followers, who seem to follow him religiously everywhere he goes.

Revillame somewhat proved that his popularity transcends the influence of the television network his program is airing on, hence the sustained support he keeps enjoying even after jumping from one channel to another. It is hard to say whether or not the influence Revillame is having on his fans has gone to the level of a celebrity-worship syndrome, but we’re kind of sure that this may be a case of entertainment-social celebrity worship, all the more making him an intriguing subject of discussion.
